We are so happy you are exploring becoming a foster parent with us. There are many foster children in Crawford County and the surrounding area waiting for a loving home. As a statewide Wisconsin foster agency, we are always looking for new foster homes. Crawford County is just one of the 50+ counties we service.

CCR foster families accept a variety of children based on their interests and license level. The majority of kids have trauma histories from prolonged neglect and/or abuse and require foster parents to have a flexible day-to-day schedule to meet their needs.

Foster parents help kids heal.

John and Cindy live in Crawford county and were licensed in the summer of 2017. Within two weeks of getting their license, they accepted the placement of a 12-year-old boy and his 9-year-old sister. The children were in a county foster home prior to being welcomed by John and Cindy. CCR immediately helped the couple put services in place for both children to receive necessary therapy to address their trauma histories from years of neglect. The sibling pair stayed with John and Cindy for 27 months as foster children and were adopted by the couple in 2020. The kids have come a long way and the growth and healing have been remarkable!

If you qualify to be a foster parent and can provide love, patience, and a flexible schedule to children, we would love to speak with you. We encourage you to explore our website and find many answers to the important foster care questions you have.

Foster Care Questions & Answers

Can foster parents have pets?

Absolutely. Your pets will need to be up to date on vaccines, and a pet's temperament will be discussed if there is a concern.

Can I choose the age of children I want to foster?

Foster parents can choose their preferred age range. However, if you wish to foster younger children, CCR asks for a minimum age range of 0-10 years, including openness to siblings. The greatest need across Wisconsin is more homes for young siblings and teens.

What is it like parenting kids with trauma?

Parenting children and youth who have lived through trauma is hard. Their past abuse, neglect, and chaos often show up as big emotions, challenging behaviors, and deep mistrust. Traditional parenting approaches don’t work. CCR foster parents need flexibility, patience, and a willingness to meet kids in their hardest moments so they can finally feel safe—and begin to heal. Our team will support you 24/7.

How much does it cost to become a Wisconsin foster parent?

There is NO cost to become a Wisconsin foster parent.

How long does it take to get a foster license with CCR?

Absolutely. Your pets will need to be up to date on vaccines, and a pet's temperament will be discussed if there is a concern.
